Entangled Lines (Time)

Berit Schneidereit, Entangled Lines

For the Kunsthaus NRW Kornelimünster, Berit Schneidereit is developing a site-specific, experimental exhibition project that allows visitors to experience photography both as a fluid artistic practice and as a tool for exploring and appropriating space.

Over the course of six months, the work undergoes a continuous transformation, unfolding through the interplay of interior and exterior spaces.

Central points of reference here are Sigmar Polke’s Dürerschleifen (Dürer Loops), which were part of his award-winning Athanor installation in the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 1986, as well as his experimental photographic works featuring plant tendrils from the same period.

With the opening of the exhibition Klassenverhältnisse – die zweite Staffel on May 9, a sculpture, Entangled Lines (Space), will take shape in the garden of the Kunsthaus NRW; by incorporating climbing plants, it references both Polke’s work and the history of the former abbey kitchen garden. At the same time, the growth of the vines will gradually produce the photographic imagery that will be incorporated into the second part of the exhibition project.

From and with this organic material, photographic works emerge that, being light-sensitive, are also in a state of constant evolution and metamorphosis and are transformed by Berit Schneidereit into a site-specific indoor installation, Entangled Lines (Time)
Beginning on October 10, this open artistic process, which began in the outdoor space, continues inside the Kunsthaus NRW, where the work enters into direct dialogue with selected works by Sigmar Polke in three gallery rooms.

The exhibition project condenses forms and stages of image genesis, thereby exploring ongoing processes of regeneration, reproduction, and change.
